Job description

General Practice Assistants (GPAs) form part of a multi-disciplinary team within primary care, providing a support role by carrying out administrative tasks and some basic clinical duties to free up GP time and contribute to the smooth running of the Practice.

We are looking for a GP Assistant (GPA) to join our friendly and professional Nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will help to improve standards across a wide range of administrative activity and basic healthcare assistant clinical duties. The position is suitable for someone who wishes to demonstrate initiative and to develop their own skills further.

Job responsibilities
  • To support the practice in the delivery of the Network Contract DES and Quality and Outcome Framework specifications
  • Dippingurine, taking blood pressure, performing ECGs and phlebotomy (blood tests)
  • Carrying out various clinical health checks e.g. diabetic foot checks
  • Assisting with specialist GP led clinics, e.g. hypertension
  • To manage data quality issues, providing support and guidance topractice staff in the use of the clinical system to promote qualityachievement.
  • The post-holder will need to become familiar with all functions of theclinical system and their applications, plus national and local qualitystandards for primary care.
  • The post holder will be aware of the variousstatutory requirements and will assist in implementation as directed by thepractice manager. There is a need to work closely with reception and clinicalstaff to ensure the smooth running of the practice, reporting any problemsencountered to the relevant person.
  • Training requirements will be monitored byyearly appraisal. Personal development will be encouraged and supported by thepractice. It is the individuals responsibility to remain up to date withrecent developments.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Maths
  • General Practice Assistant (GPA) Skills Certificate or equivalent
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy
Experience
  • Experience of working within a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise own workload
