Job description

The General Manager will support the Operations Manager/Senior Operations Manager in providing operational leadership, business development and people management for a Clinical Directorate, ensuring high quality patient care is delivered within available resources and in line with University Hospitals Tees overarching strategic objectives.

The General Manager will support the Operations Manager/Senior Operations Manager in developing a culture of high performance, ownership and accountability where safety, quality and excellence in patient outcome and experience is consistently delivered, in line with not only national and locally agreed standards but also the higher standards of performance University Hospitals Tees sets itself.

The General Manager is expected to act as a change agent and be highly visible to frontline staff, demonstrating strong personal leadership and direction whilst at the same time supporting the building of an effective leadership and management team within the Directorate(s) to ensure organisation sustainability.

This role of the General Manager forms part of the Directorate management team and is expected to work with the Operations Manager/Senior Operations Manager in the development and delivery of underpinning Directorate annual operating plans, which should in turn integrate with the Clinical Service overall clinical and business development strategy and overarching University Hospitals Tees strategy.

Main duties of the job

The General Manager will support the Operations Manager/Senior Operations Manager who has responsibility and overall accountability for the day to day performance management of their Directorates, including the management and implementation of strong and effective operational, resource and financial management control processes.

The General Manager will provide high calibre, professional management and leadership to the Directorate(s), working with the Operations Manager/Senior Operations Manager, Clinical Directors, Clinical Matrons and clinical teams to develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned to the overall Centre strategy. The Senior Operations Manager will oversee the administrative functions within the directorates, supporting achievement of key performance targets and ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to.
