Job description

General Labourer/Assistant Gardener needed in Merthyr Tydfil, £13.26ph PAYE - Reference: OR11198

7am to 3pm

To carry out horticultural and grounds maintenance duties throughout the Borough to improve public parks and open spaces.

  • Perform gardening duties with minimal supervision and use of own initiative
  • General grounds maintenance such as grass cutting, using pedestrian and ride-on mowers
  • Use hand tools like strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and others as needed
  • Mark football fields and repair turf and playing surfaces
  • Litter picking, bin emptying
  • Assist the arbo team when required
  • Drive vehicles and pull trailers (with appropriate qualifications)
  • Soil cultivation, digging, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, clearing debris
  • Edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation, planting
  • Lawn maintenance and cultivation
  • Maintain and report defects of tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Assist with landscape scheme construction
  • Seasonal bedding, planting, and removal
  • Follow Health and Safety regulations for a safe working environment
  • Keep van and tools tidy and secure
  • Use natural methods for plant protection and pest control, avoiding chemicals
  • Participate in training as required
  • Perform other duties within neighbourhood services departments

This is a full-time role on a temporary contract basis.
