Job description
Contract and Start Date

Contract: 20 hours per week / 52 weeks per year Start date: As soon as possible. We are currently recruiting an experienced Gardener to join the team of six working on the Abbey gardens and hope to appoint someone to start as soon as possible. The successful applicant will complete work on the grounds as directed by the Foreman Gardener.

Responsibilities
  • Day to day care and maintenance of gardens.
  • To provide knowledge input and advice relating to all aspects of the garden including pruning, staking, feeding and spraying.
  • To carry out an agreed annual programme of maintenance work to maintain the garden to the agreed standard.
  • Regularly inspect any garden structures and undertake minor repairs or advise Line Manager.
  • Ensure general clearance as well as minor soft and hard landscaping projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Full UK driving license (essential)
  • Experience working as a Gardener in any setting is essential including experience of regularly performing the key duties listed (essential)
  • NVQ level 2 in Horticultural or equivalent qualifications (essential)
  • Previous experience in an educational setting (desirable)
  • A PA1/PA6 spraying certificate (desirable)
  • This is a physical role so you must be reasonably fit to cope with the demands of the role, which include lifting, carrying and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Due to the remote location of the school, candidates are required to have access to reliable transportation.
