Games Design Technician – Temporary

We are recruiting a temporary Games Design Technician to work at Hertford Regional College to help deliver an outstanding learner experience and be inspirational to students at their state‑of‑the‑art facilities in Ware.

About The Role

Based at the Ware Campus, the post holder will provide support to the delivery and growth of education in the Department for Creative Arts & Industries within the area of Art and Design – L4/5 and L6 Games Design. You will take instruction from the Program Managers Games Design.

You will maintain a professional and safe industry standard creative learning environment and manage and maintain technical resources. You will be responsible for the delivery and support of students' workshop inductions and skills workshops.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide real‑time technical support during practical sessions and workshops and assist students in troubleshooting and technical aspects of coursework/project work as needed.
  • Prepare, maintain, and manage classroom resources, including PCs, game consoles, VR headsets, and peripherals.
  • Deliver and support specialist technical workshops.
  • Supervise sessions when lecturers are absent as required.
  • Contribute to the delivery of students' work experience opportunities through liaising with businesses, employers, galleries, and exhibitions.
  • Contribute to development and updating of teaching materials and online resources.
  • Accompany enrichment visits to galleries with lecturers and students.
  • Participate in departmental activities like curriculum meetings, open days, and promotion events.
  • Take part in CPD activities, including Safeguarding and Prevent training, GDPR, as well as updating own creative practice and IT skills.
Hours & Contract

The hours offered are 11.30 am to 4.45 pm Wednesdays at the Ware Campus. The temporary contract commences January 2026 on an ongoing basis, term time only.

About You
  • Experience working as part of a team with the 16‑24 age group.
  • Demonstrated digital literacy, knowledge of specialist art and design processes, ability to plan work and adhere to time schedules, and devise systems to aid workflow.
  • Willingness to work to the requirements of the teaching timetable and flexibility to adjust working times when required.
  • Good communication and organisational skills and willingness and aptitude to undertake provided training and upskill independently.
  • Possess a L3 qualification in Games Design or a related specialism, an L2 qualification in English and a L2 qualification in maths.
