Overview

Functional Skills Tutor - Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre

Campsfield IRC is due to open soon as the UK's first all-electric Immigration Removal Centre. We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring colleagues to join our team.

Responsibilities
  • Actively promote and design educational activities and vocational courses including online learning and assessment processes.
  • Ensure initiatives meet residents' needs and contractual requirements.
  • Conduct workshops focused on their skillset and experience, addressing residents' needs and fulfilling contractual obligations.
  • Provide a safe, secure, stimulating, supportive and productive learning environment that encourages attendance and enables learning and development.
  • Actively promote educational courses throughout the Centre including Maths and English, explaining opportunities and relevance as part of the Preparation for Release programme to maximise uptake.
  • Assess ESOL and skills levels of learners entering the classroom, ensuring sufficient language skills to enrol, and adapt to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Develop and deliver core modular courses and, where appropriate, advanced teaching modules and learning programmes, supporting learners to achieve objectives with engaging teaching.
  • Deliver the OCN Vocational Skills programme, maintaining standards of delivery and quality assurance.
  • Provide a short induction to residents, welcoming them to the classroom and ensuring activities are relevant and engaging.
  • Work with staff and residents to provide artistic support for cultural events within the Centre.
  • Develop, promote and deliver a range of workshops and activities to enable learners to gain useful transferable skills.
  • Create and maintain a safe, secure, positive and friendly learning environment where residents feel welcomed and respected.
  • Monitor attendance, retention and achievement figures and contribute to developing strategies to maximise these outcomes.
  • Ensure documentation and administration are completed in line with company policies and external agency requirements, maintaining accurate, compliant data.
  • Use resources effectively to ensure quality of service and value for money.
  • Manage the learning environment and ensure maintenance and security of tools and equipment to relevant standards.
  • Advise on equipment and purchases required to meet contractual requirements and best practice in education.
  • Support Regimes & Activities to ensure continuity of service, covering other areas as required.
  • Undertake further duties to support Regimes and the delivery of relevant vocational courses as required.
Person Specification
  • Essential
    • An appropriate teaching qualification and experience is required.
    • In-depth knowledge of vocational skills in their area of specialism.
    • Previous teaching experience within a related subject is required.
  • Desirable
    • Experience of delivering relevant skills workshops/training.
    • Experience within the custodial setting.
    • Experience of working with ESOL learners would be advantageous and a patient and understanding attitude to language problems faced by learners is essential.

You must be eligible for CTC clearance. You must hold a valid British passport or an EU passport with a share code. Additionally, you must have lived and worked in the UK for at least 3 years, without any extended trips overseas. Applicants must have no criminal convictions and must not be subject to any ongoing police investigations.
