What We do / The Team

The team requires a specialist in UI Engineering with experience in React, Typescript and JavaScript to join a low‑latency systems and application framework engineering team skilled in Java, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD Pipeline.

The HPA organisation (High Performance Architecture) is a high‑skilled enablement group of Subject Matter Experts who produce application frameworks and engage with application engineers to enable application modernisation for over 100 teams across Citi, with a concentration on low‑latency e‑trading platforms in Markets Technology.

Role Overview / What will you do:
  • Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions to meet goals and identify and define necessary system enhancements to deploy new products and process improvements.
  • Resolve a variety of high‑impact problems/projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards.
  • Provide expertise in area and advanced knowledge of application programming and ensure application design adheres to the overall architecture blueprint.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow and develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business, such as architecture and infrastructure, integrate to accomplish business goals.
  • Provide in‑depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Serve as an advisor or coach to mid‑level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Key Skills and Experience required
  • Demonstrated Subject Matter Expert (SME) in application development from design to deployment.
  • Passion for coding excellent, commercial‑grade, mission‑critical user‑facing applications and frameworks.
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining user interfaces with React.js including hooks, contexts and state management.
  • Strong experience with Typescript including type inference, interfaces, generics and integration with React to ensure type safety.
  • Solid knowledge of modern HTML/CSS techniques including responsive design.
  • Knowledge of building and interacting with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with Next.js would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Proficiency in using unit and integration test frameworks (Jest, Cypress, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD tooling and cloud‑based deployments.
  • Experience in implementing projects independently.
  • Great communicator with high EQ.
  • Ability to occasionally produce clear diagrammatic documentation and model key aspects with appropriate diagrammatic tooling.
  • May have a desire to learn Java and work closely with server‑side application/framework teams.
  • Relationship and consensus‑building skills.
Any Beneficial / Nice to have skills and experience
  • Experience with Terraform is a plus.
  • Demonstrates understanding of Kubernetes/Openshift tuning, including HPA and VPA.
