Job description

Avantor is seeking a Freezer Hub Technician to join our team at the AstraZeneca Discovery Centre in Cambridge. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of the Freezer Hub service, which supports scientific research by enabling secure ultra‑low temperature sample storage and efficient inventory management. You will work closely with scientists, Avantor Services, and AstraZeneca supply partners to maintain sample integrity, manage equipment, and respond to critical situations.

Responsibilities
  • Handle freezer samples: receive, inventory, label, store, track, dispatch, return, and dispose of appropriately.
  • Pick and dispatch samples within the Discovery Centre and to external sites.
  • Organise and deliver presentations or training sessions on Freezer Hub processes and IT systems.
  • Use tracking systems and communicate effectively with internal customers.
  • Liaise with logistics teams for material movement and delivery.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, and documentation for fridges and freezers.
  • Manage consumables and reagents, including daily monitoring and replenishment of Point of Use (PoU) Kanban areas.
  • Support operational laboratory tasks and maintain service levels for research groups.
  • Maintain and organise consumable and reagent inventories.
  • Keep communal areas clean and tidy; manage waste coordination.
  • Ensure housekeeping of the Freezer Hub facility.
Qualifications
  • Minimum GCSE in a science subject; A‑levels or relevant experience required.
  • Experience with inventory management systems and IT software.
  • Presentation skills and experience engaging with customers or stakeholders.
  • Laboratory experience preferred; a degree in a scientific discipline is advantageous.
