Job description

We are looking for a fleet maintenance engineer to work with us, within the Fleet Maintenance Engineering (FME) Function to deliver the Class 701 SWR Aventra fleet into service. You'll play a pivotal role within the Engineering Team at the Wimbledon Depot in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of our fleet. Day‑to‑day, you'll work closely with teams across the business (Operation, Material/Sourcing, and maintenance teams), prepare and manage comprehensive maintenance documentation, and ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and safety standards, and much more.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing managing maintenance documentation, including maintenance plans, manuals, configuration, spare parts lists, and tools.
  • Establish a up-to‑date configuration (per systems and function) of trains and related documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with contracts, regulations, and standards.
  • Managing interfaces with the Maintenance Management Information System (MMIS).
  • Identifying hazards during maintenance activities and maintaining safety‑related item documentation.
  • Check the maintenance documentation such as Vehicle Maintenance Instruction (VMI) is comprehensive, consistent, updated, and well‑organised.
  • Conducting risk assessments for proposed changes and reporting identified safety issues.
  • Monitoring reliability KPIs and preparing routine reliability reports.
  • Supporting reliability improvements.
  • Investigating and identifying maintenance optimisation opportunities, on the Heavy Maintenance (HM).

Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience or understanding of maintenance documentation management, including maintenance plans, manuals, and configuration.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in using Maintenance Management Information Systems (MMIS) or similar.
  • Ability to identify, address obsolescence and support complex troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of railway safety regulations, standards, and risk assessment processes.
  • Familiarity with reliability management tools and methodologies such as Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
  • Knowledge of cost optimisation techniques, including Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis.
  • Resilience and adaptability to work in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment.
