Job description

Are you ready to build a vital career in Fire Safety and make a real difference to a critical emergency service? The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) is looking for a motivated and proactive individual to join our team as an Apprentice Fire Safety Advisor.

This is an exceptional opportunity to gain a recognised qualification while applying your skills in a complex and high-stakes environment across the North West.

As an Apprentice Fire Safety Advisor, you will be instrumental in supporting the NWAS Fire Safety Manager in ensuring compliance with fire safety legislation across our diverse estate, including ambulance stations, offices, and fleet workshops. You'll assist in managing risk and promoting a strong safety culture that protects our staff, patients, and vital assets.

We are looking for a solution creator, someone who can identify potential issues and actively propose and implement effective, practical solutions, rather than just spotting problems.

As an apprentice, you will receive 60% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate for the first 12 months. This will increase by 5% each year as explained in Agenda for Change terms and conditions. However, for staff from NWAS and wider NHS Trusts, please refer to Apprenticeship pay guidance and FAQs | NHS Employers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting with fire risk assessments across NWAS properties.
  • Supporting the maintenance and inspection of fire safety equipment and systems.
  • Help monitor compliance with fire safety legislation and NHS guidance.
  • Developing and delivering fire safety training and awareness materials for staff.
  • Contribute to emergency planning and the investigation of fire related incidents and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintaining accurate fire safety records and documentation.
  • Working towards the successful completion of the Level 3 Fire Safety Advisor apprenticeship qualification.
What We're Looking For (The Ideal Candidate)
  • Previous experience in Health and Safety, Estates & Facilities, or a related compliance environment is highly desirable.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused attitude—you are an implementer and problem-solver.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with staff at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn with a genuine interest in fire safety and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Willingness to travel across the North West region as required.

Ready to start a rewarding career protecting the people who save lives? Apply now to become our next Apprentice Fire Safety Advisor.

What We Offer
  • A competitive apprenticeship salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Full funding for a recognised Fire Safety qualification.
  • Dedicated mentorship from experienced professionals within the NWAS Estates Team.
  • The chance to work within a supportive, inclusive, and life-saving organisation.
  • A defined pathway for career progression upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
