Financial Controller - Bideford / Hybrid - Circa: £45,000 + Exceptional benefits and development potential

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been exclusively engaged by a new client, a rapidly growing and innovative services business, which benefits from B-Corp certification. Due to continued expansion, the company has tasked us with sourcing their first Financial Controller. In this role the successful candidate will assume the finance-number-one role within the company, working closely with the CEO and senior management team. The role is offered as a full time, permanent contract and benefits from a flexible hybrid working arrangement and an exceptional package of benefits, both financial and non-financial.

Reporting to the CEO and supported by an experienced Accounts Manager, this will be a broad and interesting role, and as a newly created post within the business, offers a superb opportunity for the successful candidate to build on the foundations of a modern and efficient finance function. With a turnover circa £5M but with a range of significant new client contracts confirmed, the new FC will play a key part in managing the day-to-day financial controls of the business, as well as working with the senior management team to ensure robust future strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the senior financial lead, working with the CEO and SMT to execute key financial decision making
  • Overseeing and supporting the Accounts Manager and the day-to-day finance operations
  • Lead responsibility for all accounting protocols and maintaining robust internal controls
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant reporting standards
  • Identify and implement improvements to the function
  • Act as a key point of contact to external stakeholders and major suppliers
  • Production and delivery of detailed management accounts
  • Management of the payroll function (not administration)
  • Liaise closely with external accountants
Qualifications
  • The candidate will likely be operating at either Finance Manager or Financial Controller level, with experience in a fast-paced, growing SME
  • Excellent potential to develop with a growing business whose turnover is likely to increase dramatically
  • Applicants should be AAT qualified or higher; candidates with time-served vocational experience will also be considered
  • Passion for a paperless digital working environment and harnessing new technology is essential
  • Visible role that works closely with department heads and the senior management team; mentoring an existing employee requires excellent team-working skills
