Job description
Billing and Accounts Officer

Location: Sutton – Contract – £17.39 per hour

Our client is looking for an experienced Billing and Accounts Officer. The role focuses on the recovery of debts and service charges, and the effective management of garage stock, supporting the organisation’s sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure leaseholders and debtors understand their obligations and recover service charges and debts in an empathetic but firm manner, meeting required targets.
  • Liaise with colleagues within Neighbourhoods, Property Services and Finance.
  • Refer appropriate service charge and major work debts to external solicitor, and recommend debts/credits for write‑off or write‑on.
  • Identify and process refunds when accounts are in credit.
  • Encourage payment by direct debit, create direct decs, monitor and act on direct debit BACS reports.
  • Take payments over the telephone by debit or credit card.
  • Assist with the calculation of service charge actuals, printing and enveloping of invoices, and keeping to deadlines.
  • Attend resident forums, meetings with Council and external agencies as required.
  • Carry out any other duties within the scope of the grade as required by the line manager.
  • Use information technology accurately and effectively in accordance with SHP codes of conduct.
  • Collaborate positively with all SHP staff to cover essential customer services as necessary.
  • Respond to correspondence, telephone calls, emails and complaints in accordance with SHP service standards and timescales.
Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write clearly and creatively in a range of formats.
  • Positive attitude to support the team during periods of heavy workload or situations requiring a flexible approach.
  • Independence and ability to work without supervision while also collaborating as part of a team.
  • Good numeracy, literacy and proficiency with IT systems; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and Saturdays, for which time off in lieu will be given.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills to achieve personal and team targets.
Other Information

Work hours include occasional evening and Saturday work with time off in lieu. Use of BACS reports and direct debit monitoring is required. The role is part of an equal‑opportunity employer.
