Job Title: PMO & Project Controls Lead
Job Type: Part‑time – Remote/Hybrid
Location: London (Hybrid working options available)

Overview

Mace is committed to redefining the boundaries of ambition through responsible, transformative impact. Our PMO & Project Controls Lead will direct implementation and delivery of PMO frameworks and project controls to support commissions across a range of construction sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate and uphold Mace’s value of safety first, ensuring exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability and project compliance standards.
  • Champion a diverse and inclusive working environment, prioritising the wellbeing of team members.
  • Design and implement effective PMO and project controls frameworks and strategies on assigned commissions.
  • Drive best‑in‑class service delivery and engage with wider industry and professional bodies to promote Mace.
  • Develop expertise in PMO and project controls, building a strong internal and external network.
  • Manage PMO and project controls performance on commissions, including baseline development (scope, time, cost, risk, assumptions) and change & contingency monitoring.
  • Consult with project teams on cost, schedule, change, risk and reporting to achieve key objectives.
  • Facilitate and lead periodic reporting, structured governance and performance meetings.
  • Coordinate activities to align with Mace control centre, client requirements and legislation.
  • Line‑manage a team of PMO & project controls staff, mentoring and developing their career progression.
  • Support the HUB PMO director with resourcing, recruitment and integration of project controls into PMO and planning disciplines.
  • Collaborate on net‑zero carbon transition, proactively managing associated emissions and reductions during delivery.
  • Align with senior PMO stakeholders to influence long‑term strategy and sustainable business future.
Qualifications
  • Experience leading effective PMO and project controls on complex construction projects.
  • Experience setting up PMO and project controls services, audit, assurance frameworks and strategies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of risk tools, techniques and software (e.g., MS Office, Power BI, Aconex, Primavera P6, RiskHive).
  • Strong understanding of construction project lifecycles and consultancy interfaces.
  • Domain knowledge in one or more sectors (rail, highways, nuclear, public sector, hospitals).
  • Proven interpersonal, collaboration, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to articulate complex information for non‑technical audiences.
  • Commercial acumen and experience supporting business development and bids.
  • Relevant university degree (construction, engineering) or equivalent.
  • Progress towards or holding membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE).
  • High‑level proficiency in data analytics, Power BI or reporting suite tools (optional).
