Finance Operational Excellence Manager, 12 months’ FTC

Description

As our Finance Operational Excellence (FOX) Manager, you are the driving force behind the integrity and efficiency of our financial data and processes. Your accounting expertise combined with an informed view and keen interest in finance data and technology is crucial in this role as we look for you to make a tangible impact on our Finance function.

Working as part of the Finance Team, you will report directly to the Head of Finance Operational Excellence with accountability for the data which is being used by Finance, including the processes and systems to produce that data. You will embody the Convex values and share your skills and experience across Convex.

This role is a 12 months’ fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build good working relationships with the underwriting team and ensure that underwriting management are regularly communicated with and kept up to date.
  • Ensure processes meet our data sourcing and data management principles, including ensuring that data is sourced from the right place, is handled consistently and changes to reference data are controlled.
  • Work with our technical application support teams including Oracle and Aptitude. This person would be responsible for ensuring that any change meets Finance’s requirements and that we have appropriate control and understanding over our Finance applications.
  • Manage the Finance change request process and able to understand the requirements across a wide range of initiatives and make decisions around priorities, appropriate tooling and cost benefit analysis.
  • Liaise between the various teams involved in the finance close process. Working with the wider finance teams to ensure the data is fit for purpose, e.g. FP&A, Reg Reporting and Actuarial.
  • Working with our auditors to manage and organise audit deliverables from both a functional and IT general controls (ITGC) perspective.
  • Developing ad hoc improvements for the teams processes such as basic Airtable or Dataiku models.
  • Oversight of key month end close processes from data sourcing through to production of the trial balance including:
  • reviewing work of offshore teams and executing key controls,
  • supporting expense management team through close processes.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
  • Robust experience within finance, finance operations or finance data role within a commercial insurance / reinsurance setting.
  • Professionally qualified accountant preferred (ACA/CA preferred or equivalent).
  • Prior experience managing and / or implementing finance systems (such as General Ledgers/ ERP systems).
  • Knowledge of SOX control framework and experience working with auditors.
  • Interest in emerging technology essential and attitude of continuous learning.
  • Understanding of key finance close processes such as allocations or eliminations.
  • Comfortable with data and familiar with data sourcing strategies, data contracts and good data management principles.
  • Able to use technology to automate and scale processes.
  • Provide valuable insight and new ideas that drive continuous improvement.
  • Inspire collaboration with your peers and participate in creating an environment that encourages learning and growth.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL or other languages a plus.
