A prestigious university in England is seeking a proactive finance assistant to handle a variety of financial transactions and provide support to colleagues. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths, along with strong communication and IT skills. This role is split 50/50 between the Department of Health Sciences and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEIY), both based on the University of York’s West Campus. The Department of Health Sciences has over 360 academics, researchers and support staff engaged in delivering research, education and professional development. Teaching and research programmes are underpinned by excellent administrative support. Stockholm Environment Institute is an international non-profit research institute that tackles climate, environment and sustainable development challenges. There are offices in Stockholm (HQ), Bangkok, Bogotá, Nairobi, Oxford, Tallinn and the US.
You will act as the first point of contact for a range of financial queries and leading on a number of transactional duties such as the processing of invoices, payments, expenses and casual payroll.
The appointment will suit a person who has practical accounting experience as part of a finance team, delivering front-line finance support to colleagues. You will liaise with a number of service areas across the University so you should be an active communicator with a flexible, ‘can do’ approach.
You will be able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. In addition, you will be friendly and enthusiastic, with the flexibility to prioritise a varied workload and maintain a customer-service focus.
