Overview
Personal assistant required to support our young daughter with Cerebral Palsy who is non-verbal and has the developmental age of a two year old. This role involves assisting with daily living tasks and enabling participation in activities while ensuring safety.
Responsibilities
- Support and/or prompt with personal care, including toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, and getting dressed.
- Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
- Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
- Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
- Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.
- Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.
- Move and handle safely; training provided by the employer.
- First Aid training provided by the employer.
- Epilepsy training provided by the employer.
- Successful candidates will undertake any training considered necessary and appropriate to the role.
Requirements / Qualities
- Car driver preferred but not essential.
- Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately, be patient, supportive and caring.
- Good listening skills and ability to provide non-judgemental emotional support.
- Be empathetic and have a genuine interest in supporting people with disability/illness to achieve their goals.
- Flexible and able to adapt to the employer's needs on a daily basis; flexibility around varying hours.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to get involved and a lively personality.
Hours and schedule
- Monday to Friday, 16:00 – 18:00 during term time, with variable hours in school holidays (12 hours per week).
- Saturday, variable to suit applicant.
- Sunday, occasional hour offered.
