Working out of our Corby Distribution Centre, the MHE Technician is responsible for keeping our Mechanical Handling Equipment operational and safe. RS's global 24/7 operation ships in excess of 60,000 parcels daily, so keeping our DCs working optimally is key to our success.
Responsibilities
- Quick incident response to Operations related issues; effecting repairs or making adjustments to ensure the maximum uptime, safety and operating efficiency of the equipment.
- Supporting the departmental/project shift manager in developing and implementing continuous improvement ideas and projects.
- Set priorities for attending to problems in more than one location. Liaising with operators and managers as required.
- Taking ownership of workshop/office activities to support the above, including: spares availability, improvement of procedures, sourcing items, etc.
- Cradle-to-Grave support and management of all site Mechanical Handling Equipment including Cranes and Forklift trucks.
- Locating, managing and controlling spares usage, including contacting suppliers for prices etc.
- Identification of opportunities, development of proposals, and implementation of solutions that deliver tangible improvements to operations and the facilities departments.
- Management of contractors, suppliers and internal resource, including allocation of work, preparation of required specifications and ensuring the contractor delivers to the agreed specification.
- Ensuring all work adheres to Health & Safety guidelines, policies, legislation and requirements.
- Liaise closely with the Operations, Facilities and Projects teams.
- Responsibility for the coaching, training, mentoring and sharing of experience, and best practice, to others within the Facilities department.
- Facilities/operations/contractor training responsibility, as required, for Sweeper, Scrubber, Tractor and attachments, Crane evacuation training, harness training, "man-down" rescue (ITTSAR accredited MHE trainer and examiner preferred).
- Site PICOLO under LOLER. Responsibility for site lifting plans and out of ordinary LOLER works.
- Manage insurance through examinations under LOLER and ownership of any remedial works required.
- Ownership of the warehouse racking inspections process and uprising repairs.
- Large-scale involvement on any project work concerning (including purchase of) new MHE equipment.
- Provide effective liaison with insurance inspectors with respect to their onsite miscellaneous works.
Qualifications
- A recognised trade apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
- Forklift truck and Crane maintenance experience.
- Ability to safely work at height.
- Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and Planned Preventative Maintenance Systems.
- Experience of working with the pressures associated within a time critical, distribution/operational/manufacturing environment.
- Training and Experience in the operation, fault-finding and repair to; basic electronics, industrial electrical applications, pneumatics and hydraulics, motor/gear boxes, drives, conveyors, tools, forklift trucks and associated equipment.
- Proven track record of fault finding.
- Hands-on technical experience and expertise.
- Ability to implement and maintain high levels of Health and Safety standards.
