Job Role: Facilities Manager
Location: RAF Henlow (On-site)
Salary: £36,000 - £42,000
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Mainstay Recruitment are seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to lead a site-based team responsible for delivering high-quality maintenance and response works across a busy Defence estate for our client. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in building services, property maintenance, or engineering who is ready to take the next step into a leadership position with both technical and people management responsibilities.
As a Facilities Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day delivery of maintenance and response activities on site, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with MOD standards. You will coordinate service delivery through our supply chain, monitor performance, maintain compliance documentation, and drive continuous improvement.
You will also take ownership of small-scale projects from start to finish—managing budgets, resources, timelines, and outcomes to deliver high-quality results. Working closely with skilled operatives and mobile engineers, you will ensure they have the tools, vehicles, and training required to perform effectively.
Quality assurance and safety are central to this role. You'll review Risk Assessments and Method Statements, check completed work, and ensure all activities are recorded accurately within the CAFM system. You may also take on specific safety responsibilities such as Confined Spaces, Legionella, or Asbestos Responsible Person, with full training provided where necessary.
The Facilities Manager will act as the main point of contact for site-level issues, working closely with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), end users, and Helpdesk teams. You'll help resolve queries, manage priorities, and turn operational needs into practical, cost-effective solutions that meet stakeholder expectations.
Strong commercial awareness will be key to your success. You'll make informed decisions balancing operational demands with budget constraints, support long-term maintenance planning, and ensure value for money across all activities. You'll also work collaboratively with stakeholders to manage contract risk, resolve issues, and promote a safety-first culture throughout the site.
This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in delivering quality work, enjoys building strong relationships, and is motivated by the opportunity to make a real impact on the day-to-day running of a critical site. As a Facilities Manager, you'll have the autonomy to shape how services are delivered, the opportunity to grow your leadership and technical skills, and the satisfaction of contributing to a workplace that plays a vital role in national operations.
