Facilities Manager – Location: Swinton, Manchester; Salary: £45‑55k p.a.; Job Type: Full‑Time / Permanent / On‑Site

Role Overview

As Facilities Manager within the engineering department and reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will manage both short‑term and long‑term objectives within the site facilities department, solve facilities‑related issues, and liaise with site personnel including chemical and manufacturing plant operators and engineers.

You will oversee site‑wide utilities supply to the manufacturing plant and office buildings and maintain key plant units such as industrial steam boilers, site water treatment, and distribution networks, as well as manage facilities personnel, infrastructure, and compliance of pressure systems and lifting equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure relevant utilities such as gas, steam, compressed air, water, electricity are available to the production plant on demand with SOPs reviewed and updated as required.
  • Implement strategies to enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational costs, including evaluating energy consumption and recommending sustainable practices.
  • Organise and manage the workload of the facilities team and develop Facility Engineers and associated apprentices, ensuring the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles.
  • Review and manage site HVAC, security and fire systems, ensuring service contracts and testing are carried out appropriately and on schedule.
  • Support and contribute to the site CAPEX plan with facilities expertise and forecast future needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, security and environmental regulations and protocols, maintaining accurate records of facility management activities, inspections and compliance audits, and preparing reports for senior management review.
  • Ensure effective and timely delivery of supplier services to agreed timescales, scope, quality and cost, and negotiate contracts with service providers.
  • Ensure essential amenities such as water and heating are in order.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including operations, safety and administrative staff, to support overall facility needs and operational efficiency.

Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures to ensure facility safety and minimise disruption during emergencies.

Conduct inspection of buildings and utilities plant to determine vital services, repair and maintenance needs, and review corrective actions including the arrangement and supervision of internal and external resources.

Qualifications and Experience
  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C / 4 or above including Science, Mathematics, and English.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification (or above) in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as Facilities Manager or Engineering Leader of a manufacturing plant.
  • Strong knowledge of technical/engineering operations and facilities management best practices.
  • Understanding of health and safety compliance.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Knowledge/awareness of gas, compressed air, electricity, steam and water distribution systems.
