Job Title: Estimator & Scheduler – Roofing Specialist

Department: Commercial

Location: Shotton preferred; Caerphilly considered

Salary: up to £35,000 plus Benefits

Catnic, part of Tata Steel, is a leading manufacturer of building products and systems. We are looking for a highly skilled Estimator & Scheduler to join our Urban division. This is a critical role for our business, requiring strong technical expertise, mathematical ability, and proven experience in the roofing industry.

Make a tangible impact

As an Estimator & Scheduler, you will play a key role in supporting our customers and internal teams by providing accurate estimates and detailed schedules for roofing and cladding projects. You will respond to technical and pricing enquiries, interpret architectural drawings, and ensure that all schedules are prepared to the highest standard for production.

This role is highly technical and detail-oriented, requiring someone who can combine industry knowledge with analytical skills to deliver precise solutions. You will work closely with our sales team and customers to ensure projects move smoothly from tender stage through to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating & Scheduling: Prepare accurate estimates and final schedules for roofing and cladding projects based on customer specifications and measurements.
  • Technical Support: Respond promptly to technical and pricing enquiries, providing informed advice and solutions.
  • Design Interpretation: Review architectural and contractor drawings to select appropriate products and systems that meet both technical and cost requirements.
  • CRM & Data Management: Use CRM to manage leads, track projects, and use Excel to input schedules for production.
  • Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, architects, and specifiers to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction.
  • Sales Collaboration: Work closely with Business Development Managers to convert tenders into orders and achieve target conversion rates.

  • Essential Skills & Experience:
    • Proven experience in the roofing industry – understanding of roofing systems, cladding, and associated technical requirements.
    • Strong mathematical skills and ability to work with measurements and calculations accurately.
    • Strong focus on accuracy and a commitment to delivering work right the first time.
    • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications confidently.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers and internal teams effectively.
    • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Desirable:
    • Familiarity with scheduling and inventory systems (SAP/ Salesforce)
    • Previous experience in a sales or estimating role within construction.
