Job description

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST) provides compassionate, quality, and timely emergency and urgent care to everyone in the South West 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We deliver this over 10,000 square miles of England and occupy over 100 buildings. These buildings play a vital role for our colleagues and partners so that we deliver the best care when you need us most.

To help us do this, we are looking for an experienced Estates Project Manager to support our existing Estates Project Manager.

This is a key position in the SWAST Estates and Facilities Team reporting to the Head of Estates and Facilities; working on and delivering strategic projects that enable the trust to deliver a future‑proof and fit‑for‑purpose estate.

This is an exciting time to join the Trust and support the Estates team with a number of projects currently in flight and many more upcoming. The role will be responsible for leading and delivering projects as a Project Manager, but also leading design teams as a client’s representative to manage client interests, cost oversight and reporting function as required.

This is a varied role with stakeholder engagement at all levels, both internal and external. The Estates Project Manager will provide solid customer care and insight into how to ensure projects are both kept on track and meet the end‑user requirements in line with Trust strategy.

The role can be based at either Exeter HQ or our Bristol office.

The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Experience of managing multiple projects across multiple sites, from concept through to successful delivery.
  • Experience of successfully managing multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Sound knowledge of contractor management, health and safety, and project management.
  • Excellent communication skills — confident, empathetic, and able to build productive relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and a passion for delivering across multiple workstreams in a fast‑paced environment.

Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with electrical experience/an electrical background.

Working for us is an experience like no other. We provide emergency and urgent care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, operating across the largest ambulance region in England of 10,000 square miles and responding to an average of 2,650 incidents every day.

We remain committed to ensuring that we provide the best possible care for all our patients, which is reflected in our new five‑year strategy which continually improves patient care at its very core.

At the heart of our beautiful and diverse region we employ over 6,000 people and are supported by over 575 volunteers.

We embody our values of "one team", compassionate and innovative and are looking to make a real difference to people's lives. We would love to hear from you. In return we will equip you with the skills, resources and development you need to thrive in your role. You will have opportunities to progress to roles at a higher pay grade and enjoy continuous professional development.

Benefits
  • Competitive NHS salary
  • A standard working week of 37.5 hours
  • Holiday entitlements of 27 days per year, plus general and public holidays, rising to 29 days after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years
  • Pay enhancements for out of hours, shift and overtime working
  • Generous Pension Scheme
  • Career and salary progression
  • Car leasing scheme
  • Free parking across Trust sites
  • Cycle‑to‑work and other salary sacrifice schemes
  • Staff networks
  • Access to a wide range of discounts from various organisations across the UK
