Overview

Environmental Health Officer – Food & Safety
Contract: Initial 3 month ongoing contract
Salary: £57 to £67 per hour umbrella
Location: Surrey

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Food & Safety EHO to join our organisation, working under the guidance of the Principal Environmental Health Officer. In this role, you will deliver a high-quality, efficient and responsive food hygiene service, ensuring statutory duties are met and public health is protected.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out programmed routine and reactive food hygiene inspections.
  • Conduct complaint investigations across Food Safety.
  • Undertake appropriate enforcement actions in accordance with the Council's Enforcement Policy.
  • Deliver services to the highest professional standard, ensuring all statutory and legal obligations are met.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Work proactively to agreed objectives, planning and prioritising workload with autonomy.
  • Complete inspections, investigations and project work as required, ensuring all actions are monitored and followed through.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and policy changes.
  • Liaise effectively with internal teams, other local authorities, government departments and external agencies.
  • Keep the Principal EHO informed of workload, emerging issues and any performance constraints.
  • Maintain accurate and professional records using Northgate and other internal systems.
  • Ensure all written communication is clear, professional and instructive.
  • Prepare reports, witness statements and relevant documentation for legal proceedings, attending court to give evidence when required.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the public, colleagues and partner agencies.
