Job summary

A leading recruitment firm seeks an experienced Environmental Advisor for a significant energy infrastructure project. This role requires expertise in UK environmental legislation and ISO 14001 compliance, with responsibilities including guiding teams and conducting audits. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Environmental Science and strong site-based experience in construction. This position is site-based in Hinkley Point C, England.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience operating within an ISO 14001-compliant EMS.
  • Strong site-based experience in construction or large infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist advice on environmental legislation and best practice.
  • Implement and maintain the project's Environmental Management System.

  • Develop relationships with regulators and stakeholders.

Environmental Advisor

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive Environmental Advisor to support a major UK infrastructure project in the South West. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with environmental legislation, drive best practice on-site, and promote a strong environmental culture across all project teams and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist advice on UK environmental legislation and industry best practice to ensure full project compliance.
  • Implement and maintain the project's Environmental Management System (EMS) in alignment with ISO 14001 standards.
  • Guide project teams and subcontractors in adopting sustainable construction practices and achieving environmental compliance.
  • Develop and foster strong working relationships with environmental regulators, local authorities, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate environmental inspections, audits, and investigations to identify risks and drive improvement.
  • Support delivery teams in meeting environmental performance goals and promoting a culture of continual improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience operating within an ISO 14001-compliant EMS, including procedure development and implementation.
  • Background in construction or large infrastructure projects with strong site-based experience.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage with contractors, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Solid understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and client/contractor responsibilities.
Desirable
  • Experience in soil and materials management (CL:AIRE protocol).
  • Familiarity with Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) compliance.
