Job description
Job Overview

This is a 12 month fixed term post for an ENT Specialty Doctor. The successful candidate will be part of the ENT team who provide a comprehensive out‑patient, elective surgery and emergency service in this large busy District General Hospital.

The Department of ENT Surgery treats all aspects of patients within this specialty and this post is an integral part of this. The department provides 24 hour 3 tier emergency cover from the main hospital base of Royal Cornwall Hospital, with additional outpatient clinics at local community hospital sites.

There is a dedicated ENT outpatient department co‑located with Audiology at Royal Cornwall Hospital. All emergency and elective surgery is performed at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

There is an adult ENT ward (shared with vascular surgery) and a dedicated ENT theatre with second stage facilities for same day discharge. Children’s surgery takes place in Tower theatres adjacent to the Paediatric ward base.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of ENT.
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day‑to‑day management of the ENT Department.
  • Teaching and training of junior staff, and opportunity to teach medical students within the Peninsular Medical School.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • To attend meetings as appropriate.
  • Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out of hour’s responsibilities.
