You will be contracted for 10 sessions per week with the option to increase along with service needs. You will need to have a broad experience in general ENT. Any subspecialty interest in otology is required and will be actively supported, although on‑call work will need general ENT experience.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. Morecambe Bay is nestled between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales and is within easy reach of Manchester and Liverpool. The area offers affordable accommodation with access to excellent grammar schools.

Main duties of the job

We provide a comprehensive range of acute and supportive hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. One of the largest employers in the area, we have approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites: Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal) and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe). Joining us places you in a progressive team committed to diversity, excellence and achievement.

The ENT department has 5 consultants, 3 associate specialists, 7 specialty ENT doctors and 2 junior doctors (CT1/2 at RLI, FY2 at FGH). We have two head and neck clinical nurse specialists and one advanced nurse practitioner. Specialty clinics include a one‑stop head & neck clinic, combined rhinology clinic, paediatric clinics, voice and vertigo clinic. Regular audit meetings, radiology meetings and video‑link meetings are held for the regional head & neck multidisciplinary team. The weekend on‑call rota is 1:5 and weekday 1:4.

About us

We offer facilities for sialendoscopy, balloon sinuplasty, endoscopic ear surgery, trans‑nasal oesophagoscopy, BAHA, DCR, navigation for endoscopic sinus surgery and nerve monitoring for parotid/ear/thyroid surgery. We aim to provide patient care close to home. Our head and neck network is with Royal Preston Hospital and ties with Manchester Royal Infirmary for skull base pathology and rhinology. Paediatric services collaborate with Alder Hey and Manchester Children’s. An elaborate audiology service is available for adults and paediatrics. Opportunities exist for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with strong links to Lancaster Medical School. We operate a paperless department with e‑prescribing and e‑requesting and encourage innovation to improve patient safety, experience and efficiency.
