About BCI

British Creative Institute (BCI) is a specialist post-16 setting supporting learners aged 16–25 with SEND. We provide a supportive, structured environment where learners build confidence and skills through a blended curriculum of core learning and creative pathways.

The Role (Flexible – based on your strengths)

We are seeking an English professional who can support learners working at Entry Level through Level 2, using a practical, accessible approach. Depending on your experience, the role can include a mix of the following:

  • Entry Level English and communication foundations (speaking & listening, reading for meaning, basic writing)
  • Functional Skills English (Entry Level / Level 1 / Level 2)
  • GCSE English Language (Foundation) support / resit support (where appropriate)
  • Small-group teaching and/or 1:1 interventions
  • Anxiety-aware re-engagement sessions for learners who struggle with attendance
  • Literacy catch-up and phonics-informed approaches (where needed)
  • Practical English for adulthood: forms, emails, CVs, interview preparation, workplace communication

We will shape the timetable around your strengths and what our learners need most.

Key Responsibilities (tailored to your remit)
  • Deliver engaging English sessions that are accessible for a wide range of SEND needs (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, communication needs).
  • Differentiate effectively: visuals, scaffolds, chunked writing frames, supported reading, repetition, practical tasks, assistive tech where helpful.
  • Assess starting points and track progress using clear targets and evidence.
  • Support learners to develop confidence in communication, reading, and writing—celebrating small steps and building independence.
  • Contribute to learner reviews (including EHCP outcomes) where required.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCo, pastoral team, and families to remove barriers to learning.
  • Maintain a calm, consistent learning environment with clear routines and positive behaviour support.
Applicant Requirements

We welcome applications from candidates across schools, FE, tuition, alternative provision, and specialist SEND settings.

You could be:

  • A qualified teacher (QTS / QTLS / PGCE / CertEd) OR
  • A highly experienced English specialist/tutor with strong SEND experience OR
  • An FE/Functional Skills English practitioner with a proven record of learner progress

What matters most

  • Strong English/literacy knowledge and the ability to teach it in a clear, supportive way.
  • Confidence adapting teaching for SEND learners and building trust.
  • A safeguarding-first mindset and professional boundaries.

Desirable (not essential): Functional Skills delivery, exam preparation, experience with learners who have high anxiety / school refusal, use of phonics-informed approaches, experience supporting communication needs.

(If you’re the right person but don’t tick every box, we still want to hear from you.)
