Job summary

A local engineering firm in Northern Ireland is looking for a Labourer / General Operative to support daily activities in a busy engineering workshop. You will assist experienced tradespeople in welding, pipefitting, and fabrication tasks while ensuring a clean and safe workspace. The role requires previous experience in a similar position, ability to follow instructions, and a full UK driving licence. The position offers a permanent contract with 40 hours per week and opportunities for further training and development.

Responsibilities

  • Support welders, pipefitters, and fabricators with day to day workshop and site tasks.
  • Prepare materials, components, and work areas for fabrication and installation.
  • Carry out general labouring duties including lifting, moving, and organising equipment.
  • Assist with loading and unloading deliveries safely and efficiently.
  • Operate basic hand tools and workshop equipment under supervision.
  • Provide general assistance during stainless steel fabrication and pipework assembly.
  • Support site teams during installation works as required.

Skills

Previous experience in a labouring or general operative role
Ability to follow instructions accurately
Basic understanding of workshop practices and hand tools
Good awareness of health and safety requirements
Able to work as part of a team
Experience working in an engineering, fabrication, or construction environment
Ability to use power tools, grinders, or cutting equipment safely
Full UK driving licence
Willingness to undertake further training
