Job summary

A leading trades workforce provider in Verwood is seeking a Machine shop Estimator to produce machining manufacturing methods from detailed drawings. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of Aerospace materials and procurement processes. Responsibilities include effective communication with design and quality teams, compiling costs, and managing multiple projects. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with costing processes are essential. This role offers a unique opportunity in a dynamic environment.

Machine shop Estimator
Role & Responsibilities
  • 1. Must be able to read detailed manufacturing drawings and to produce machining manufacturing methods in-conjunction with customer specifications for turning, milling, grinding and the treatments of components.
  • 2. Must be able to produce detailed process sketches and technique sheets to aid manufacture if required.
  • 3. Must be able to communicate effectively with design and quality related disciplines to drive and resolve issues promptly to the benefit of the company.
  • 4. Must be familiar with costing processes and compiling costs and quotations in a structured manner for customers.
  • 5. An appreciation and knowledge of Aerospace related materials and procurement processes is essential.
  • 6. An appreciation and knowledge of Aerospace and customer specific quality and specifications is necessary.
  • 7. An understanding of Heat treatment processing.
  • 8. Knowledge of finishing treatments and processing is essential to determine allowances for machining.
  • 9. Must be able to work concurrently on multiple projects.
  • 10. An appreciation of Lean Technique adopting right first time and waste reduction would be an advantage.
  • 11. Must be fully conversant with Microsoft Office suite of tools, including Word, Excel.
  • 12. Knowledge of any production software such as MRP systems would be an advantage.
  • 13. An understanding or proven experience using Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), would be an advantage
  • 14. Proven use of tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA’s), and Control/quality Plans required.
  • 15. Must be able to demonstrate a flexible approach to ensure that departmental targets and goals are achieved.
