A forward-thinking international facilities management company seeks an Energy & Sustainability Manager to drive their Net Zero and ESG ambitions. This role includes leading the development of sustainability strategies, compliance with regulations, and producing performance reports while fostering engagement and awareness within the organization.
Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Energy & Sustainability Manager to lead the environmental strategy of a forward-thinking, international facilities management company. This pivotal role will drive Pareto’s internal Net Zero and ESG ambitions, while also designing and delivering innovative sustainability strategies tailored to our clients’ needs. The role spans strategic leadership, technical implementation, and compliance, targeting improvements in energy use, waste reduction, and overall environmental performance.
With a strong analytical mindset, deep understanding of sustainability frameworks, and hands-on experience with asset and energy optimisation, the successful candidate will lead initiatives that reflect cutting-edge industry standards and meet evolving legislative and stakeholder requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Sustainability & Net Zero Strategy
- Lead the development and delivery of Pareto’s Net Zero roadmap and ESG strategy, including performance targets and reporting.
- Oversee corporate environmental reporting, compliance obligations, and sustainability communications.
- Engage in and help steer the activities of Pareto’s Environment & Sustainability Committee.
Client-Focused Energy & Sustainability Solutions
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with clients and internal account teams to map and implement ESG objectives across contracts.
- Provide consultancy and technical guidance on Net Zero, ESG, and sustainability best practices.
- Conduct sustainability and energy audits to identify improvements across client and internal portfolios.
Operational Optimisation & Innovation
- Technically advise on asset and systems optimisation, including HVAC, lighting, refrigeration, and BMS.
- Champion innovative solutions in energy management and environmental impact reduction, developing a reliable supply chain to support delivery.
- Deliver end-to-end energy and sustainability projects—from concept to handover—in collaboration with operations teams and subcontractors.
Legislation & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation such as ESOS, SECR, EPC, MEES, and ISO 14001 standards.
- Stay informed on emerging sustainability regulations and guide internal and client teams through changes.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Produce and present credible, data-driven ESG and energy performance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage carbon footprinting (Scopes 1, 2, and 3), ESG disclosures, and use of digital platforms for energy data reporting and performance tracking.
- Identify and assess the feasibility and ROI of energy-saving and sustainability initiatives.
Engagement & Culture
- Provide training, workshops, and case studies to build awareness and embed sustainability into company culture.
- Support the communications team in showcasing progress and success stories related to environmental performance and sustainability events.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Degree in sustainability, environmental science, energy management, engineering, or related field—or demonstrable experience in a similar role.
- Proven experience in energy and sustainability management within the built environment or consultancy sector.
- In-depth knowledge of UK regulations and frameworks including ESOS, SECR, Net Zero, and ESG.
- Understanding of HVAC systems, lighting, BMS, and energy controls.
- Skilled in energy surveys, costed proposals, feasibility studies, and business case development.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interrogate large datasets and performance benchmarks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce and present professional reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), databases, and sustainability platforms.
- Experience working with CAFM/CMMS systems.
Desirable
- ESOS Lead Assessor or similar accreditation.
- Professional membership (e.g., IEMA, CIBSE, Energy Institute).
- Experience with sustainability standards such as BREEAM, ISO 14001, SBTi, or TCFD reporting.
- Understanding of soft services in facilities management is advantageous.
