Job summary

A public health service is seeking an Emergency Medical Dispatch Support Officer to assist with ambulance requests and support vulnerable patients. This role requires individuals who can maintain calm in high-pressure situations and demonstrate strong communication skills. Applicants must have a HLTAID001 qualification and are encouraged to apply by 6 February 2026.   • Salary: MCE01P (probation): $63,459.00 pa (pro-rata)/MCE01: $70,439.00 pa (pro-rata) / Casual: $32.11-$35.64 per hour + 25% casual loading

An Emergency Medical Dispatch Support Officer (EMDSO) responds to triple zero (000) calls requesting ambulances across South Australia, assisting vulnerable South Australians during times of high stress. To achieve best outcomes for patient, an EMDSO must be able to use assertive communication and problem-solving skills to help guide and determine the most appropriate pathway for the patient.

Part time employment is available and can be negotiated should you receive an offer for employment; however, you are required to work full time for the first 22 (approx.) weeks of employment to complete the required training. At the end of this period, you will receive a Certificate III Ambulance Communications (Call Taking) - HLT31015. This nationally accredited course is paid for by SA Ambulance Service (SAAS).

  • Ability to effectively engage and build trust with people from diverse backgrounds through open and transparent communication, preferably over the telephone
  • Ability to use sound inter-personal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, honesty, professionalism and confidentiality in all dealings
  • Ability to balance the needs of the patient whilst ensuring appropriate protocols and instructions are followed
  • Experience in meeting competing and changing priorities whilst under pressure
  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team to achieve good outcomes
  • Experience in the use of and application of Windows based software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Good geographical knowledge of metropolitan Adelaide and Regional South Australia.

Applicants must hold a current HLTAID001 - Provide First Aid qualification to be eligible for appointment.
