Job Description

The opportunity

Leonardo offers a range of Apprenticeships from 2‑5 years across a variety of STEM and business routes, offering paid training coupled with on‑the‑job learning that enables you to gain practical skills, experience and knowledge that set you up for a successful career. We offer competitive entry salaries and fully support your academic learning through to qualifications, with salary increases as you progress.

We help you settle into your new location, ensuring you are familiar with the team and receive a warm welcome from Day 1. A member of our Apprentice team at each site supports you, protects your study time, gives you access to digital learning, and provides opportunities to get involved with the local community and STEM projects, enhancing many aspects of each programme.

The Apprenticeship

As an Electronics Engineering Degree Apprentice you will spend the first two years of a 4.5‑year programme rotating through different Electronics disciplines to identify where your strengths and interests lie before moving into a final placement from your third year, where you will join a specialist team of engineers and work within our Integrated Project Teams. During your placements you will work with experienced engineers to design and test new and existing products, learning about the engineering lifecycle and using your new skills to solve problems, generate new ideas and support the development of the next generation of EW products.

You will also attend university on a mixture of day and block‑day release to complete your Embedded Electronics & Systems Design Apprenticeship (ST0151) which includes a BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Through your work placements you will record learning activities and evidence to show your competency against set criteria, and in your final placement you will complete a project that forms part of your degree.

During your apprenticeship, you will:

  • Grow your knowledge of an engineering business and what the role of an Electronics Engineer is by being part of our Integrated Project Teams.
  • Develop practical skills in engineering and understanding key processes and technologies.
  • Support early‑careers activities – our apprentices have the opportunity to work as STEM ambassadors in schools, colleges and universities.

The starting salary for this role is £21,525.
