About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Contract Electronics Engineer to play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of complex electronic systems. You will be responsible for interpreting system requirements, overseeing hardware design and firmware development, and ensuring compliance with customer, legislative, and business standards.

This role spans the full project lifecycle, from bid stage through to in-service support, and offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret system requirements and flow them down into detailed hardware specifications.
  • Conduct electronics and/or firmware development activities, including full system, sub-system, and board-level design and reviews.
  • Ensure technical solutions meet customer, legislative, and business requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight of engineering activities across the project lifecycle.
  • Support project planning, estimation, and risk identification at project kick-off.
  • Identify and resolve qualification, certification, and safety issues.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including requirements specifications, design documents, interface specifications, and acceptance tests.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers to address technical matters.
  • Oversee initial testing, integration, and formal verification processes.

Role Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Electronics/Firmware Engineer across the full project lifecycle, ideally within the defence sector.
  • Hands-on experience designing complex, multi-disciplinary electronic systems.
  • Track record of delivering reliable solutions to fixed timescales and budgets.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project management, systems, mechanical, and software engineering teams.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
  • Broad knowledge of:
  • Analogue and digital electronics
  • EMC, electrical safety, and signal integrity design principles
  • PCB schematic design and layout
  • Power, high-speed digital, analogue, RF, or sonar systems
  • Design for manufacture and full lifecycle processes
  • Prototyping, testing, and verification of electronic subsystems
  • Component selection and lifecycle considerations (e.g., RoHS, REACH, obsolescence)
  • Low noise, low power analogue receiver design (JFETs, low-noise differential amplifiers)
  • ADC/DAC selection and design
  • Power amplifier design (SiC FET technology up to 1500V DC)
  • Power supply design (mains and DC-DC converters)

Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative and technically challenging projects in a supportive and expert engineering team. You’ll have the chance to shape designs from concept to completion, with the autonomy to apply your skills to real-world applications in defence and advanced engineering.
