Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary: £45,000-£55,000
Location: South Cambridgeshire

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design or Manufacturing Engineer to join a well-established and innovative product development company. The company specialises in the design and development of electro‑mechanical scientific instrumentation, taking products from initial concept through to full‑scale production.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, leading the transfer of R&D concepts through to manufacturable products as well as factory testing activities. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a real impact by working on cutting‑edge R&D projects and optimising concepts for seamless manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take R&D concepts to a manufacturable product
  • Ensure designs are optimised for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFMA)
  • Lead factory acceptance testing
  • 3D CAD design
  • Build and test prototypes
  • Work closely with a cross‑functional R&D team across electronics, software, and systems
  • Participate in design reviews, problem‑solving sessions and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience Required
  • Strong background in developing electro‑mechanical systems
  • Previous experience in taking a product to manufacture is a must
  • Tooling, jigs and fixture design
  • DFM and DFMA experience
  • 3D CAD design skills
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge of semi‑automated/automated production lines is advantageous
