Overview

Job Title: Electrically Biased Shift Technician (Multi Skilled)

Company: Frederic Robinson Limited

Responsible to: Engineering Maintenance Manager

Responsible for: Maintenance, repair and continuous improvement of production engineering and site service assets.

Place of work: Normally at Unicorn Packaging Centre (UPC) or Unicorn Brewery (UB); tasks may be undertaken at other company premises. Flexibility with regards to working hours is required.

Responsibilities
  • Understand how the machines involved in processing and packaging operate; actively participate in maintenance and repair of these items.
  • Carry out departmental duties as instructed by the Engineering Maintenance Manager within agreed timescales.
  • Be prepared to transfer to the Unicorn Brewery under an emergency on a temporary basis.
  • Maintain all equipment at the Brewery and the Packaging Centre to acceptable standards as determined by the Company.
  • Keep maintenance and quality records using paper and computerised systems as specified by the Company.
  • Fault diagnosis on automated systems using laptop PC and PLCs to resolve faults and control issues.
  • Provide electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and process maintenance cover on a day-to-day basis across all production and site assets as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain the immediate work area, workshops and engineering service areas to high standards of cleanliness and tidiness; ensure engineering equipment is removed from production areas once a job is completed.
  • Promote high standards of workmanship and work as part of the Engineering Team with respect to maintenance and continuous improvement; liaise with other areas of the business as required.
  • Develop and improve plant asset reliability and efficiency with other shift technicians; contribute to planned maintenance schedules and CI activities.
  • Record and control spare parts usage; order spare parts as required; ensure compliance with risk assessments and quality requirements.
  • Identify and carry out Continuous Improvement (CI) activities and create related documentation (e.g., TCards) with line production colleagues.
  • Carry out line changeover activities in conjunction with production colleagues, including SMED and other lean activities.
  • Participate in meetings, provide updates on activities, and strive to achieve world-class plant standards.
  • Adhere to the Company Health & Safety Policy; review risk assessments on agreed timescales; ensure safe working practices and investigations into incidents where applicable.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be multi-skilled with strong electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Electrical qualification required.
  • Experience in a food FMCG or equivalent process industry.
  • Knowledge and use of lean methods & tools; continuous improvement and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong IT skills and ability to interpret documentation in English.
  • Experience in fault diagnosis on automated systems and PLCs; ability to carry out PPM and breakdown repair effectively.
  • Experience in a role requiring self-mufficient, flexible hands-on, results-oriented approach and strong people skills.
Requirements & Work Environment
  • Bank Holidays included in normal working; typically 5 days out of 7, flexible to business needs.
  • Place of work may include Unicorn Packaging Centre or Unicorn Brewery; willingness to transfer temporarily for emergencies.
  • Ability to work across multiple premises and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Commitment to quality systems and safe working practices; adherence to COSHH, PUWER, EAWR, LOLER and BS7671 regulations as applicable.
