Overview

Our client, a high-profile pet food manufacturer, is seeking a skilled Electrical-Bias Technician to join their fast-paced production site. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of automated production lines by responding quickly to breakdowns, conducting fault-finding and repairs, and delivering proactive maintenance to minimise downtime.


Key Responsibilities


  • Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns on production and packaging lines, ensuring minimal disruption to output.

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to improve reliability and reduce unplanned stoppages.

  • Diagnose and repair faults on electrical systems, PLCs, motors, drives, sensors, and control panels.

  • Support mechanical breakdowns when required (basic fault-finding and repair).

  • Undertake modifications and continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability of production assets.

  • Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to ensure optimal equipment performance.

  • Complete all engineering documentation, including job sheets, maintenance records, and shift handovers.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and food safety standards at all times.

  • Provide technical support during plant shutdowns, including project and installation work.

  • Assist with spare parts management and ensure availability of critical stock.

  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and prevent recurring issues.


Key Skills & Experience Required


  • Electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, or dual-skilled with strong electrical bias.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or FMCG environment (food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, or similar).

  • Strong fault-finding skills on electrical systems, ideally with PLC knowledge (Siemens, Allen Bradley, or similar).

  • Knowledge of variable speed drives, conveyors, sensors, and automated machinery.

  • Understanding of food safety, hygiene, and GMP standards within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team and independently.

  • Flexible and proactive with the ability to prioritise under pressure.
