Electrical Control Panel Technician

  • Location: St. Neots. Cambourne area
  • Type: Permanent, Full-Time
  • Rate: to £18.00 p/hour, Overtime to £24.00 p/hour (1.5 times the hourly rate), based on experience
  • Working Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday, start at 07.30 AM with a mid-day finish on Fridays
  • Free on-site car parking

Long established, Special Purpose Machinery Manufacturer requires a skilled Electrical Panel Wirer / Control Panel Builder to join their skilled electrical team in the production of high-quality, custom-built control panels for industrial cooking and cooling equipment.

This is a hands-on, workshop-based role requiring precision and experience in electrical panel construction. Production is bespoke to small batch, with high variation and craftsmanship required.

Duties will include:

  • Build and wire low-voltage control panels (110-600V AC, single & three-phase; 24V DC).
  • Interpret EPLAN schematics, mechanical layouts, and BOMs.
  • Accurately install and terminate devices such as: Circuit protection devices, relays, solenoid valves, Inverter drives, Soft Starts, Contactors, HMIs, PLC systems (primarily Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley or Siemens).
  • Work across a range of panel types including Junction boxes, HMI enclosures, MCCs, and multi-door cabinets.
  • Use hand and power tools to fabricate and assemble panel components.
  • Measure and mark out on various materials (stainless steel, GRP, mild/galvanised steel).
  • Perform continuity testing and basic functional checks.
  • Work collaboratively with design and test engineers, under supervisor guidance.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient working area.

The successful candidate must be able to work from engineering drawings and have previous Panel Wiring experience in a production environment.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Significant practical experience in electrical control panel building
  • Familiar with both AC and DC control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Qualifications / Experience:

  • Formal electrical qualifications / completed apprenticeship
  • Experience using EPLAN and interpreting detailed BOMs
  • Background in food machinery or industrial automation environments
  • Understanding of electrical testing processes and panel safety checks

Hours:

39 per week, Start 7.30am Monday to Friday. Mid-day finish on a Friday. Overtime rate paid. Good hours available
