Job description

Our client, a specialist in deployable infrastructure solutions, has recently secured a €100M contract to supply containers and flatracks to the Netherlands Ministry of Defence. This represents a major growth opportunity and a chance to work on cutting-edge projects.

Electrical Design Engineer

The Electrical Design Engineer will join their Weymouth-based team on a hybrid working basis, responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for seamless integration into larger engineering projects, supporting the successful delivery of the contract and wider business needs.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects and make a significant impact!

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce conceptual designs, detailed designs, integration/installation drawings, design specifications, operational documentation, and validation evidence for electrical engineering solutions.
  • Work closely with other design engineers to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall project design.
  • Ensure all electrical design solutions meet safety, quality, technical, and commercial requirements.
  • Manage third-party designers, ensuring their designs meet project requirements. Provide design support to installation and commissioning teams to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external design review meetings, providing expertise and guidance on electrical design matters.
  • Identify and support opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and overall business improvements within electrical design processes.
  • Assist in preparing technical tenders and budgets, providing electrical design input to ensure accurate scope definition.
  • Handle requests for quotations (RFQs) for specialist equipment related to electrical systems.
  • Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical systems and components.

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be qualified with a degree or higher education qualification (HNC/HND) in electrical engineering, along with strong post-qualification experience in a design environment. A background in electrical design in the marine industry may well suit this role due to the need for design for installations within small and restricted spaces. Experience of the integration of multiple services within containerised or modular builds would be a significant advantage. You will need to be proficient in the use of Autodesk AutoCAD (ideally with other 3D packages), as well as Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel & Outlook.

You will also have experience of:

  • Simulation and analysis tools for electrical systems (such as ‘Trimble MEP’ / DIALux / Relux).
  • The identification and rectification of defects encountered during operational service.
  • Working knowledge of 18th Edition (amendment 2) wiring regulations.
  • LPS and earthing systems.
  • EMC and Tempest installations.
  • Working knowledge of relevant BS / ISO standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet targets and work to deadlines.
