Educational Support Worker

Location: Sheffield
Client: Sheffield City Council
Contract Type: Temporary (8 months)
Hours: Full time (37 hours per week)
Salary: 12.22 per hour (PAYE) / 15.66 per hour (Umbrella)

About the Role

The Educational Support Worker will provide support to young people with High Needs, helping to remove barriers to learning and promoting effective participation in education. Working under the direction of tutors and managers, the role involves delivering education programmes to small groups and individuals while ensuring that learners are safeguarded at all times. The postholder must ensure that all work is carried out in line with statutory regulations and Council policies, guidance, and best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support young people with High Needs to engage fully in education.
  • Remove barriers to learning and promote active participation.
  • Assist in delivering education programmes to small groups or individuals under tutor/manager direction.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, supportive learning environment.
  • Ensure all activities comply with statutory regulations, service area guidance, and wider Council policies.
  • Maintain appropriate records and report safeguarding concerns in line with procedures.
Experience & Knowledge
  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with High Needs (desirable).
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and learner welfare.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education and strategies to reduce barriers to learning.
  • Awareness of Council policies, statutory requirements, and best practice in educational support.
Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instruction and work under the direction of tutors/managers.
  • Organisational skills to support planning and delivery of education activities.
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion, and learner safety.
Additional Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS check required.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
