Overview

Could you be a Sense Education Support Worker? We now have an opportunity for an Education Support Worker to join our Sense College in Peterborough. This is a permanent 21 hours a week role, working 3 days a week, Wednesday to Friday 9.15am - 4.15pm. Our college is open Monday to Friday for 38 weeks of the year.


Approach

We use a total communication approach which includes a variety of methods such as BSL / Sign Supported English / On Body Signing / Intensive Interaction / PECS / Hand Under Hand Exploration / Objects of Reference / Voice Output Communication Aids / Vocalisation, Facial Expression and Body Language.


What you will do


  • Support individuals and groups within the centre and community.

  • Team members who support learners with core funded educational needs will carry out education related responsibilities under the guidance of senior education colleagues.

  • Maintain a Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

  • Represent the college at external professional development events for Support Workers.

  • Contribute to Individual Learning Plans/targets and monitor progress of these.

  • Play a key role in ongoing assessment of learners.

  • Provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.

  • Deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.

Your required skills and experiences


  • Previous experience of working with people who have a sensory impairment, autism or learning disability would be an advantage, as would knowledge of BSL, Makaton or other methods of communication; however, training will be provided.

  • You will be able to work effectively as part of a team whilst demonstrating your own initiative.

  • You will have experience of person-centred planning, keeping records up to date and providing personal care.

  • Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths is an essential requirement for this role.
