Overview

Ecology Advisor. We are recruiting for an Ecology Advisor to join a leading civil engineering contractor working on major infrastructure programmes. This role offers the opportunity to integrate ecological expertise into large scale construction, water and utilities, transport and built environment projects, contributing to sustainable delivery across multiple disciplines.

Role Overview

You will support project teams by providing specialist ecological advice, carrying out surveys and assessments, and ensuring ecological risks are identified and managed effectively. You will work closely with delivery teams, design and environmental specialists, utilities and construction crews, and statutory or regulatory bodies to drive compliance, biodiversity protection and best practice ecological management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ecological surveys, habitat assessments and protected species monitoring
  • Prepare and review ecological reports, EIAs and supporting documentation
  • Advise project teams on ecological constraints, risks and mitigation strategies
  • Undertake site visits and inspections to monitor ecological compliance
  • Ensure compliance with UK wildlife, environmental and ecology legislation
  • Support planning applications with ecological input
  • Develop and implement ecological mitigation and monitoring plans
  • Coordinate habitat management, species protection plans and translocation activity
Skills and Experience
  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline
  • Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, habitats regulations and protected species requirements
  • Experience within construction, water, utilities or infrastructure environments
  • Experience conducting ecological surveys and assessments and producing reports
  • Ability to interpret ecological constraints and provide practical advice
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Competent with Microsoft Office; GIS experience desirable
  • Full UK driving licence is essential
