This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, highly respected multidisciplinary consultancy renowned for lending their expertise to a range of high-profile projects across ecological, planning and design, and arboricultural landscapes. They are actively seeking a talented Ecologist to work on a variety of challenging projects alongside a growing team of professionals, based near the historical city of Chelmsford.

Responsibilities
- Undertaking fieldwork and ecological surveys to gather data and inform reports and assessments (e.g., Protected Species Licence Applications)
- Producing reports and assessments for review by senior colleagues
- Contributing to a range of projects, working as part of a high-performing team as well as on your own initiative
- Engaging with clients across the public and private sectors
- Representing the company on projects across the local area and further afield
Required skills and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Ecology (or a related discipline)
- Some experience within a UK-based ecological consultancy (or Local Authority, in a relevant role)
- Confident in conducting fieldwork, analysing and interpreting data to inform reports and assessments (including Environmental Impact Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments, planning applications, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Good time management skills, including ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work on your own initiative as well as in a team
- Full, valid UK driving licence with own vehicle and willingness to travel to various sites
- Willing to work unsociable hours to conduct fieldwork
- Proactively working to attain a Protected Species Survey Licence
Desirable skills and experience
- Hold at least one Protected Species Survey Licence
- Experience producing technical reports including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA), and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments
- Competence with applying for and implementing licences
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)
