Overview

Preston Park is looking for an experienced Early Years Practitioner to join our early year’s provision within our vibrant multi-cultural school. Preston Park is a thriving three form entry, fully inclusive and diverse community school in Wembley, Brent. Responsibilities
  • Under supervision, act as a key worker to ensure children have access to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.
  • Observe, assess and record learning in line with school systems and processes.
  • Initiate and plan learning experiences with the support of teaching staff as needed; evaluate and adapt daily, weekly and termly to meet the children’s needs and interests.
  • Work with individuals and groups of children according to their development and individual needs.
  • Work in partnership with Parents/Carers.
  • Organise with the support of the Early Years teachers and other professionals a smooth transition from home to school.
  • Draw on the expertise of colleagues within school and external agencies to draw up plans for individual children.
  • Display the children’s work to reflect their achievements.
  • Keep and update records as agreed with senior staff, including individual portfolios.
  • Provide an inclusive service for care and education, ensuring activities reflect the diverse backgrounds of the children.
  • Provide a sensitive and high level of personal care to children that supports their individual needs.

The successful candidate will
  • Hold an NVQ 3 or BTEC in care and education or equivalent qualification – N.N.E.B
  • Full working knowledge of The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and Early Years Profile and The SEN Code of Practice
  • A thorough understanding of how young children learn
  • Understanding of key principles of child development and learning
  • Understanding of the needs of children and families including those with disabilities
  • Previous experience in working with children aged birth to five
  • Previous experience of leading a small team or area
  • Ability to absorb and understand a wide range of information concerning the centre’s functions
  • Ability to build and form working relationships with children, parents/carers and colleagues, to work flexibly across professional and operational boundaries, and to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise between conflicting demands
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and develop new skills and learning opportunities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills appropriate to communicating with Managers, children, Parents/Carers, families and staff
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2 in Maths and English
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Salary and Hours

Early Years Practitioner Salary (full-time equivalent): Brent Single Status Pay Scale - Scale 5 point 12-17 £28,598.00 - £31,022.00 plus £2,301.00 London Weighting paid pro rata as this role is part time and term time only. Actual Pro Rata Salary: £24,102.00 - £26,144.00 plus £1,939.00 London Weighting. Hours of work: 35 hours per week – 8:15–4:00pm with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break, term time only.
