Job description

We're looking for an Early Intervention Officer to join our Housing Services team on a temporary basis, (Two months) providing short-term support to residents at a key point in their tenancy. This role focuses on early action and prevention, working with residents who may need additional help to manage their tenancy, rent payments, or Universal Credit. You'll support residents with low-level rent arrears (up to £500), helping to prevent issues from escalating and supporting long-term tenancy sustainment. It's also an excellent opportunity to build experience, develop practical housing and income-related skills, and gain valuable insight into future opportunities within housing and tenancy services.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Providing pre-tenancy and early tenancy support to new residents
  • Supporting residents to make or manage Universal Credit claims
  • Working with residents experiencing low-level rent arrears (up to £500) to agree practical, realistic actions
  • Helping residents understand rent payments, service charges, and budgeting
  • Identifying early risks and working with Housing Officers to put the right support in place
  • Signposting residents to specialist money advice and support services
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner organisations
  • Keeping accurate case notes and monitoring outcomes

You don't need previous housing experience – we're looking for someone with transferable skills, a supportive approach, and a genuine commitment to helping people.

Ideally, You'll Have
  • Experience working in a customer-facing or support role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence handling sensitive conversations around money and wellbeing
  • Good organisation skills and the ability to manage a varied workload
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office / databases)
  • Flexibility, including occasional evening or weekend visits
