Are you looking for a fun and varied job in hospitality management? YHA Helvellyn are looking for a Duty Manager to support the Hostel Manager! YHA Helvellyn is located 963ft above sea level on the approach to one of the Lake District's highest and most exciting fells; Helvellyn. In the summer we have lots of hiking, biking and paddling enthusiasts coming through our doors to experience the beauty of Ullswater or tackle the infamous Striding Edge ridge walk- one of the best mountain experiences to be had on the Lakeland Fells! The hostel is in a remote location, just outside of the village of Glenridding, but has easy access to both Ullswater and the surrounding fells. As a Duty Manager you'll support the Hostel Manager with the day-to-day management of the hostel. You'll create a great place for our teams to work and ensure our guests have a great experience in our hostels.

Responsibilities

• Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Using our systems for efficient guest check‑ins and check‑outs, food and beverage sales and service and other management functions.
• Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors.
• Assisting in the preparation of food and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride that will influence more sales.
• Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence.

Skills and Experience

• Experience of working face‑to‑face with customers.
• Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service.
• Experience of managing a team – experience of leading others, providing guidance to members of your team (desirable).
• Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable).
• Ability to manage varying pressures, including peaks in workload demands – can prioritise, able to deal with conflicting duties.
• Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) – able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel.
• Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA – what YHA does and how we do it.
