About us

Led by Sir John Townsley, the nationally renowned GORSE Academies Trust has a central mission to ensure we play a significant role in removing the stubborn link between poverty and academic underperformance. We achieve this through providing all students, especially those with the most challenging and complex backgrounds, with a rigorous and academic education that develops them academically and socially. This prepares them for life in Britain and across the world.

We aspire for our young people to acquire the Gift of Choice—the ability to actively choose their next steps at whatever age, rather than having avenues closed off as a consequence of a poor skill set or qualification base. The trust’s performance reflects this work: in 2022-23, GORSE was the highest performing trust in the country (for trusts with 5 or more schools) for whole cohort Progress 8 and for disadvantaged Progress 8. All its establishments (excluding those currently ungraded) are Ofsted Good or Outstanding.
