Central Alliance part of the RSK Group have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced DrillingSupervisor to join their team in Normanton, UK.

The Opportunity :

Accountable to the Drilling Manager, this role provides essential drilling and operational guidance, support and assistance to our drilling crews, to ensure safe and effective delivery of projects to our clients.

The role also involves helping to drive a culture of working effectively and efficiently, as a united team. The role will be approximately 50% in the yard, helping to improve efficiencies and 50% out on site, travelling to various sites, upskilling and supporting drilling crews.

Responsibilities :
  • Be the first point of call for all drilling staff queries, providing appropriate levels of support in order to deliver safe and profitable jobs. Includes, but not limited to, troubleshooting technical drilling challenges and difficulties, problem solving any rig and ancillary equipment / tooling issues, assisting with relevant site / project management queries, supporting with personnel / HR queries etc. Includes a level of awareness of project budgets, to inform daily decision making.
  • Prioritise the supervision of jobs deemed as high risk, to ensure safe working and at all times, and to provide knowledge transfer and upskilling of drill crews.
  • Act as Lead Driller on challenging projects, as and when directed by Drilling Manager. Trouble shoot on other challenging sites and advise accordingly.
  • Rotate across all drill crews, providing training, coaching and mentoring to staff, with a view of increasing their technical drilling knowledge (i.e. use of appropriate drilling muds, drilling methods, drilling techniques, flush, bits etc.), planning skills (i.e. site planning, planning ahead for additional consumables / tools required, pre-shift planning, during shift assessments etc.), site safety awareness, planning and implementation (i.e. planning how to set up a safe site and safe drilling rig operation etc.).
  • Feed key operational drilling information to the Drilling Manager, to enable sound scheduling of resources to jobs (staff, equipment etc.)
  • Work well with and communicate frequently with the fitting team, to ensure maintenance, breakdowns and repair schedules are updated to reflect day to day changes in the field, ensuring plans are met and projects delivered as per the Planner schedule.
  • Support Manager to undertake site walkovers for jobs that are deemed challenging. This is to ensure appropriate equipment and staff are resourced to job.
  • Support departments to remain agile to respond to, or pre-empt the needs of clients, in terms of quick response times, reacting swiftly to emergency works, always delivering a professional and technically sound drilling service that exceeds the client’s expectations.
  • Conduct safety and site checks / audits, competency assessments and upskilling where appropriate (including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Task Briefing Sheets)
  • Conduct risk assessments and support Drilling Manager to implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support Manager to coordinate biannual LOLER inspections and certification records.
  • Support Manager with the compliance to PUWER regulations.
  • Assist Manager with drilling equipment stock levels / checks.
  • Approve employee timesheets and expense reports.
  • Quickly develop and maintain respectful, professional and high performing working relationships across the business and with clients, to facilitate excellence in the management and delivery of projects.
  • Establish a sound understanding of Central Alliance’s and RSK’s ways of working (processes, procedures, guidelines etc.) for drilling, logistics, project planning, execution, etc.
  • Supported by the company, maintain and develop technical knowledge, such as British Standards and industry standards.

  • Extensive experience in operating various drilling rigs and extensive knowledge of different drilling methods throughout the UK.
  • Demonstrable experience of scheduling (equipment, staff) and project management (including commercial, SHEQ etc.).
  • Commitment to safety and improving ways of working, including ability to assess site safety. Experience of managing drilling crews and diverse teams.
  • Competent using data management tools and reporting software including Microsoft Office and computer literate (training provided on other software).
  • Excellent literacy, numeracy and computing skills.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills with an ability to work well with people from various backgrounds.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills, fast to deliver effective solutions.
  • Demonstrates a can-do attitude and collaborative work ethic, with the ability to instruct work, work part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide timely feedback to employees.
  • Experienced in and willingness to work away from home, when required.
  • Ability to conduct business in a professional and polite manner at all times, adhering to our Core Values.
  • Familiarity with BDA guidelines, liaison with BDA, and management of BDA accreditations.
  • Manual Driver’s Licence
  • Knowledge of SHEQ and QAQC industry best practices.
