Overview

As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for keeping wards, offices, and public areas clean to a high standard. You will work as part of the domestic service team, as well as part of the wider community within the hospital setting. Domestic Assistant's are responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleaning in line with infection prevention. You will work from a daily/weekly schedule in both clinical and none-clinical areas, making sure that the hospital is clean, and that patients have a pleasant and safe stay. Working Hours – There is typically a combination of full-time and part-time roles available, and you are more than likely to have a set shift pattern.

Responsibilities
  • As a domestic assistant you’re likely to perform a range of duties that include: Cleaning patients or service user’s room/ward
  • Cleaning toilets and bathroom areas
  • Cleaning communal areas, such as lounges, dining areas and corridors
  • Clean utility room
  • Carry out deep-cleaning operations in certain areas
  • Use the most appropriate cleaning equipment for the task, this may include vacuum cleaner, mops, or electric floor cleaner
  • Using cleaning products and other chemicals safely and effectively
  • Keep up to date with safety procedures for example, fire procedures and escape routes and undertake appropriate workplace training
Professional Duties
  • Carrying out specific cleaning and other related duties to set procedures and standards
  • Ensure infection control policies are adhered to
  • Work as part of a team, using a degree of initiative to prioritise and organise the daily duties, whilst always maintaining a professional approach
  • Ensure the cleanliness of clinical and non-clinical areas is maintained to the required standard
