An independent charity focusing on responsible investment is seeking a Director of Campaigns and Communications to lead impactful programmes. The role requires designing and overseeing multi-year campaigns that challenge corporate behavior and advocate for public narratives. Candidates must have experience in campaigns, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to negotiate at high levels. This is a permanent role based in London, offering hybrid work options and a competitive salary of £85,000 plus benefits.
This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.
ShareAction is an independent charity and an expert on responsible investment. We work to build a world where the financial system serves our planet and its people. We set ambitious standards for how financial institutions, through their investment decisions, can protect our planet and our people and campaign for this approach to become the norm. We convene shareholders to collectively push companies to tackle climate crisis, protect nature, improve workers' rights and shape healthier societies. In the UK and EU, we advocate for financial regulation that has society's best interests at its core.
As Director of Campaigns and Communications you will lead ShareAction's integrated campaigning, community organising and communications function to deliver high-profile, high-impact programmes that shift corporate behaviour, investor practice and public narratives. You will design and oversee multi-year, multi-tactic campaigns that are tightly linked to our strategic objectives, ensuring each campaign is grounded in robust evidence and a clear theory of change. You will set and own the communications strategy of the organisation - media, digital, brand and thought leadership - so that our messages amplify campaigns and shape public and investor debate.
Your teams will lead civil-society engagement and coalition-building, activating partners and communities to generate public pressure and broaden our influence. Externally you will represent ShareAction at the highest level: negotiating with corporate targets and investors, speaking to media and stakeholders, and representing the organisation in a range of settings. You will work closely with your teams, the COO and the Fundraising team to translate programme ambitions into fundable propositions and secure the resources needed to deliver them.
On a week-to-week basis you'll run creative and strategic planning and campaign design sessions; review evidence and impact metrics; brief and mobilise our Heads of campaigns; sign-off campaign plans and publication launches; and convene external partners and funders. You will also provide visible, inclusive leadership across the directorate - fostering creativity, collaboration and agility, modelling ShareAction's values, and championing equity, diversity, and wellbeing in people management.
As a member of the Leadership Team you will help ensure strategic coherence across the organisation, driving learning and innovation so that ShareAction's campaigns and communication deliver measurable change for people and planet.
What you'll bring to the team
We want to hear from you if you have experience leading high-impact campaigns, advocacy and/or communications programmes, and if you want to use public pressure, storytelling and strategic influence to hold powerful financial and corporate institutions to account. This role will suit someone who has a strong track record of delivering change through investor or corporate engagement, and who is confident negotiating at the highest levels to secure meaningful outcomes for people and planet.
You’ll bring exceptional communication skills - across media, digital channels and narrative development - and you’ll know how to turn complex issues into compelling messages that shift behaviour and shape public debate. You will enjoy working collaboratively across teams, building strong relationships, and bringing together partners, funders, communities and colleagues to achieve shared goals. Your leadership style will be inclusive, values-driven and people-centred, with experience managing and motivating diverse, multidisciplinary teams to perform at their best.
We think this role would suit someone who loves designing ambitious campaign strategies, fostering creativity in others, and guiding teams through complexity. You’ll thrive when connecting evidence, narrative and organising into coherent programmes, and you’ll be committed to learning, wellbeing and embedding equity, diversity and inclusion in everything you do.
While we hope you’ll bring most of the experience listed, we know great candidates come from a range of backgrounds. Many skills are transferable, and we’re keen to hear from people who can offer fresh perspectives or innovative approaches to achieving impact.
