Job description
Overview

Graduate Surveyor roles within Estates work, assisting and supporting on a wide range of programmes and services across the UK. The role will provide subject‑matter expertise, communicate with key stakeholders and progress through an intensive graduate programme leading to the Higher Executive Officer (HEO) grade. Successful graduates will begin in September 2026 and will be based either in Andover or Catterick, with regular travel to sites within the region and occasional UK‑wide visits.

Responsibilities
  • Maximise capital receipts through the sale of land and property surplus to MOD operational requirements.
  • Support identification of suitable planning and disposal strategies that optimise value for surplus assets and deliver value for money for the taxpayer.
  • Assist with obtaining planning certainty for disposal sites, including pre‑application advice, site allocation within emerging Local Plans, and the preparation and submission of planning applications.
  • Support the disposal of surplus sites via partnering arrangements, auctions, and private treaty.
  • Collaborate with the Accommodation Team to improve the supply and provision of military accommodation.
  • Engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support planning and disposal work.
  • Work closely with the Site Closure team to ensure disposal sites are ready for handover to the purchaser upon completion of any sale.
  • Monitor and manage data and financial aspects of disposal activities.

Location & Travel

The role can be based at either Andover or Catterick. Successful applicants will be expected to attend their chosen location regularly for face‑to‑face meetings and collaboration. The role involves regular travel to sites within the chosen region and occasional UK‑wide site inspections, with a minimum of 60 % of working time in office (subject to site capacity and required workplace adjustments).

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £33,730 per annum. The Ministry of Defence contributes £9,771 towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Benefits include tailored learning and development, flexible working options (non‑contractual hybrid arrangement), a culture of inclusion and diversity, and 25 days of annual leave rising to 30 days after five years of service.
