The Historic Royal Palaces Podcast is a chart‑hitting history podcast for people who love British royal history. Every fortnight, our historians and experts unlock the secrets of the monarchs you think you know and reveal the forgotten lives of the people you’ve never heard of. From dramatic events to intimate human stories, we explore how history shapes us, and how these iconic palaces continue to come alive today.

Digital Producer (Podcast)

As a Digital Producer (Podcast), you will support Historic Royal Palaces’ ambition to reach and engage a broader audience, both nationally and internationally, with compelling audio storytelling that brings our palaces’ histories to life. You will lead the research, development, production, and commissioning of high‑quality history podcasts, while managing our publishing schedule across platforms. You will also lead the development of video podcast releases on YouTube, expanding the reach and engagement of our audio content.

You will be a member of the Digital Engagement department within the Public Engagement directorate, working alongside a dynamic and dedicated team of digital professionals. Together, the team produces and manages a wide range of products, projects, and content across multiple digital platforms.

Qualifications & Experience

We are seeking a Producer with at least five years’ professional experience in podcast and/or audio production, who can bring strong editorial expertise, production skills, and a passion for history to our high‑performing team.

From researching the fascinating history and stories of the palaces and shaping concepts for new podcast series to managing studio and on‑location recordings at our historic sites and overseeing our podcast channel, this role offers ample opportunities to apply your expertise and creativity in a vital area of our work.

To succeed in this role, you should:

  • Be a seasoned Producer with confidence in researching history topics using diverse sources, particularly publications and subject matter experts.
  • Have a passion for British history and a creative spark that enables you to transform research into engaging podcast series that captivate audiences.
  • Bring production management expertise to oversee the entire process, from research and scripting to recording, editing, and delivery.
  • Have experience commissioning production partners to create content (desirable).
  • Have a solid understanding of podcast platforms, metadata, and discoverability.
  • Be able to devise and coordinate a content release plan in collaboration with teams across the charity, maximizing audience reach and engagement through platform best practices and data‑driven insights.
  • Have additional experience in video podcasting (encouraged).
